About Performance Timing

Performance Timing is a small organization that specializes in providing timing and related services to smaller and medium sized events.  We utilize a system of software, timing units and procedures that provide multiple levels of redundancy to assure your event of accurate and timely results.

The backbone of our system are the timing units produced by Summit Systems which have proven reliable in extreme conditions.  These timers were developed to withstand the rigors of cross-country skiing which are often operating in extreme conditions.

We operate out of Wausau, WI and while we technically have no geographic limits, most of the events we have worked are in Central Wisconsin.  We are open to more races outside this area.

Most of the work is done by me, John Burke, in terms of setting up the software and timing configuration.  I will also manage the technical aspects of the race timing on race day.  I do get help from my family and I have been known on occasion to enlist the help of a friend or two for some specific functions.  We also rely on some volunteer help that you provide at the site.  The volunteer tasks are simple and non-technical in nature and most people do quite well with a little instruction.  The one requirement of a volunteer is focus.  We try to provide each worker with just enough to do so as to not overwhelm them, but keep the job interesting.

Another part of Performance Timing is our Track and Field operation.  This is a group of individuals from the local school district who have joined forces to administer track meets for two of the local high schools using their FAT timing system.  We are also providing these services to other local high schools on a case by case basis.   Moving into our second year of operation, we expect to do about a dozen meets that include several large invitationals, conference meets and regionals.  Our primary service is providing the timing services, but also provide meet set-up by collecting the lineups from each of the teams and setting up the meet.  Meet set-up can be a stand-alone service, if desired.  Contact us if you would like to find out more about these services.
